Details of Achievements :
Major Activities/Achievements : Health and Environment Awareness Research and Trai (HEARTS) is registered under the Indian Societies Act as a not-for-profit organization. Its prime objective is to render research, awareness generation, training services and promote activities that are critical to the socio-economic development of the country, particularly related to health, safety, environment, waste management, energy use, energy efficiency, renewable energy, rural/urban development and management, disaster and crisis management, and sustainable development. Health and Environment Awareness Research and Trai’s team members have been engaged in the city of Agra under the Agra Municipal Reform Project that was funded by Japan Bank of International Cooperation in 2002-2004. Since then, Health and Environment Awareness Research and Trai’s team was also involved in initially promoting the concept of door-to-door awareness about kitchen wastes, source segregation, collection and its disposal through decentralized composting method in the city of Agra. Health and Environment Awareness Research and Trai had conceived the project in 2004 in partnership with ICICI Bank and USAID, which was to be supported by Resident Welfare Associations, Agra District Administration, Citizens Council of Agra, CPCB, UPPCB and Agra Nagar Nigam. Health and Environment Awareness Research and Trai is implementing a project on Zero Waste Management in the city of Agra in which we have initiated a door-to-door kitchen waste segregation, collection and making vermi-compost from the Kitchen Waste collected from localities. This initiative was started as voluntary effort by us in partnership with local Resident Welfare Associations to provide a cleaner Agra. This initiative is also being supported by several RWAs as well as Citizens Council of Agra. This initiative has been started in several colonies such as Surya Nagar, Professor’s Colony, Delhi Gate, Kunwar Colony where the door-to-door collection charges per house per month is being collected. There are also colonies such as Bharatpur House and Lajpat Kunj where the initiative started but had to be stopped due to non-payment of charges. Any proceeds from the sale of vermi-compost goes towards operations as well as keeping Agra Clean and Green. Hearts has promoted a Peoples Movement totally dependent of local support from Households, Customary sweepers, Unions, ANN, District Administration, Public Health and Engineering Department officials.
