Major Activities/Achievements : The Group for Economic and Social Studies (GESS) was set up as a registered society on 5th February 2002 in New Delhi. Group for Economic and Social Studies has obtained tax exemption certificate under Section 80 (G), PAN and FCRA clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs for receiving foreign remittances. A list of the research and project work executed by Group for Economic and Social Studies so far is presented below:
1. A Study on Iraq sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi
2. Conference on Diaspora Civil Society Partnership in partnership with India Development Trust (IDT) London, UK
3. A Study Project on Value Addition to Human Capital of India Compatible to Liberalization with Special Focus on IT Education sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Union Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India
4. Preparation and Publication of Directory of R and D Institutions in India sponsored by DST, Union Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi
5. A Study Project titled Profile of Indian Scientists in Major Scientific Agencies sponsored by DST, Union Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi
6. A Study Project on Lebanon sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India
7. Research Study On Rising Crimes against Elderly People and Responsibility of Police in Metros sponsored by Ministry of Home Affairs, Bureau of Police Research and Development, New Delhi GESS has close association with people of various hues economists, academicians, scientists and statisticians. Dr. S. N. Yadav who has had a long association with FICCI founded GESS. Dr. Yadav has a strong background in economic research having done his doctorate in this field. Starting with his career with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and moving on to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Yadav continued to work on subjects, which had their base in economics. The Group for Economic and Social Studies (GESS) was launched in February, 2002 to act as a thinktank and conduct research and indepth studies on various socioeconomic and related issues. The studies of the Group are intended to be of help to policy makers in government, public and private sector as well as international agencies. Members of the Group have longstanding experience in different fields economic, social, administrative and education. They have been associated with formulation and implementation of policies to bring about economic and social change at the national and international level.
