Details of Achievements :

Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu (Hind) is an all India body with a network of over 600 branches across the Country. It has a history of 108 years behind it for it was founded in the year 1903. Several eminent personalities of various faiths and from different walks of life have been associated with the Anjuman in different capacities. To name a few of these are Prof. Thomas Walker Arnold (the first President of the Anjuman), Shibli Nomani (The first Secretary), Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Hirdey Nath Kunzroo, Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, Pt. Brij Mohan Data Tariya Kaifi, Dr. Zakir Hussain (Former President of India) and so and so forth. Presently Dr. Khaliq Anjum is the full time secretary of the Anjuman. He is holding this office since 1975, the year in which Anjuman’s Head Office shifted from Aligarh to Delhi. To cut is short the last 35 years of Anjuman are full of its hectic activities. A brief resume of these activities is as follow: (a) Accomplishment of the construction of Urdu Ghar, thereby providing the Anjuman its home for the first time in its history. (b) Establishing a regular publishing house of it own. (c) Introducing Urdu medium vocational courses such as: (i) A computer Course in Collaboration with NCPUL. (ii) An Urdu Medium certificate Course in Library Science. (iii) Introductory Urdu Classes for non Urdu Adults. (iv) Arrangement of Registering Urdu Medium Students for taking examinations of Middle, Secondary and Senior Secondary course through National Institute of Open Schooling. (v) Running vocational courses for girls in cutting and tailoring in its Qaiser Talimi Markaz situated in old Delhi. The other areas of Anjuman’s activities are as follows: (a) Publishing a quarterly magazine “Urdu Adab” since 1921. It is one of the most reputed magazines of Urdu. (b) Publishing Weekly journal Hamari Zaban since April, 1939. The Hamari Zahab highlights a brief account of several activities relating to Urdu language and literature going on round the country. (c) The Anjuman off and a holds National and International Seminars on various issues concerning to Urdu Language and Literature. (d) The Anjuman, through its various committees, periodically examines problems relating to Urdu in the field of education particularly relating to Urdu medium schools. (e) To give incentives to the Urdu Medium Students, The Anjuman also gives away awards to the position holders in secondary and Senior Secondary examinations. Apart from this the Anjuman always looks forward to other organizations of Urdu, official and voluntary both, to join hands with them for the betterment of Urdu Language and literature in various spheres of their activities.
