Since Amarjit Bhagwant Singh Charitable Trust inception 5 years ago The Attic Amarjit Bhagwant Singh Charitable Trust has been organizing cultural events in Delhi. These include events in the field of dance, (Young Dancers festival, Dance Without Borders festival) Music (Workshops on Dhrupad Music) Art (Buddhist, Greek and Indian) exhibitions, workshops and lectures on a large range of subjects,(Chinese calligraphy, Enameling, Yoga, Tibetan medicine, Indian floral essences (Ittars), Yogini temples, Indo European languages and many others. In addition The Attic has organized 3 series of lectures in collaboration with the India International Centre and INTACH. The Delhi Series consisted of 12 lectures on the architecture, language, music, birds, trees and history of Delhi by eminent speakers Khushwant Singh, Upinder Singh, Pradip Krishen, Alok Rai, Dunu Roy, KT Ravindran and William Dalrymple. These lectures have been compiled in a book ‘Celebrating Delhi’ published by Penguin 2010. The Dialogues of Faith series at the India International Centre from January to September 2008 consisted of 12 lectures on the religions of India, Atheism and the syncretic nature of Indian art and music. The speakers included Mani Shankar Aiyar , Dr Valson Thampu, Khandro Rinpoche, Dr. J.B. Shah, Dr. Bharat Gupt. Along The Spice Routes of the World at the IIC consisted of 10 lectures on the culinary traditions of India and the world and consisted of eminent speakers Pushpesh Pant ‘Seasons, Rasa & Food’, David Housego ‘The Cuisine of the British Raj’, Sally Holkar ‘Cooking of the Maharajas’, Nayan Chanda ‘Spicing Up The European Imagination’ and Zilkia Janer ‘Geopolitics of Culinary Knowledge’. From 12th to 28th February 2009 in collaboration with Delhi Administration, ICCR, Sangeet Natak Akademi, UNESCO and Jamia Millia Islamia we organized the first ever International Festival of Sacred Arts at Siri Fort Auditorium in Delhi. This event included 7 events at different places of worship (Guruvayoor Mandir, Buddhist Vihara, Cathedral Church of Redemption, Birla Mandir, Nizamuddinn Dargah and Gurudwara Dumduma Sahib). It included panel discussions on Sacred Art, Sacred Sounds, Sacred Spaces, Sacred Poetry and Sacred Sites with 30 Indian and Foreign panelists. There were 4 Art exhibitions and a Film Festival. From 5th to 9th March 2010 the Second Festival was held at IGNCA with excellent panels on Sacred Textiles, Sacred Music, Sacred Groves and Landscapes, Gender and Landscapes of the Sacred and Ritual to Invoke and Evoke the Sacred Through Performance (organized by Dr. Kapila Vatsayan. The exhibitions included Contemporary Folk Art from Bengal, an installation The Labyrinth and Sacred Geometry by an Australian artist Richard Dunn and the Graphic works of Wasifuddin and Qamar Dagar. The Attic has played in important role in the development of an alternate cultural space in Delhi for the promotion of art, music and dance. It is highly regarded and always has some of the best speakers and performers in Delhi. The Attic organized the cultural events for the Dastkar Nature Bazaar held in IGNCA in november 2009.
