Details of Achievements :

AADI is a pioneer in the field of disability with the vision of influencing policy, service delivery and technical resources which address the needs of disabled people in an inclusive manner. It is a registered organization with a human resource of around 130 technical and non-technical staff. In response to a lack of awareness and a severe paucity of services, AADI formerly The Spastics Society of Northern India, was established in 1978 as a small school for children with cerebral palsy. From a school with just about 16 children, we responded to the needs of people with disability and expanded our scope of work. In the past thirty years AADI has: • Provided direct services to people with disabilities and their families covering the lifespan of the person with disability. Our reach so far has been at least 5000 families from the Northern Region of India. the services were need based and included special education, therapy, speech and communication, vocational training, aids and adaptations, medical support, counseling, physical support, financial support, training, crisis handling etc. • Developed trained professionals through our Post Graduate Diploma courses affiliated to University of Delhi and recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India. We have developed over 1000 Developmental Therapists and Educators through these courses. • Advocated with the Government for appropriate legislative changes including working on the contents of Disability Act, 1995 and successfully influenced the 2001 Census Plan to include people with disability. As an Apex Level organization we have been invited by the Government of India to participate in the planning process for the sector from the IX Five year plan of the country. • Build capacity of professionals e.g. teachers, employers, doctors, lawyers etc. to include disability related issues into their ongoing work. • Initiated the first Rural Community, Based Rehabilitation Program in the northern region that works across disabilities. • Mainstreamed at least 6000 children with disability into regular schools in urban and rural areas. • Pioneered employment opportunities for persons with multiple disabilities.
