Major Activities/Achievements : “Disha-Towards Self” has been established with the sole aim of bringing hope and happiness into the lives of underpriviledged children.As a first step, an informal education centre is functioning at the address given below.Our aim is to impart the basics of education and health to these children.There are about 40 students enrolled at the centre,age ranges from 5 to 20.Economically underprivileged children, adolescents and young adults living in and around Greater Kailash are encouraged to join so that they can learn to read and write.The goal is to enable such children to perform better if they are already enrolled in schools, or, to coach and encourage them to join the formal education system. In order to raise funds for the functioning of the centre, various cultural programmes have been organised and eminent artists have been invited to perform in different venues in Delhi.Donations from individuals have also enabled the smooth functioning of the activities of the organisation. In our constant endeavour to build the capacity of the informal education centre, we wish to increase the number of classrooms,hire professional teachers,provide personal copies of books and stationery,provide nutritional snacks at the end of the class, arrange monthly visits by a doctor for health check up,take the children for picnics / excursions,organise cultural shows by the children, arrange for vocational training centres for children who have missed the opportunity to complete their schooling.
