Major Activities/Achievements : Gandharva Mahavidyalaya is one of the oldest and premier institutions of Delhi established in 1939 by Padmashri Pt. Vinaya Chandra Maudgalaya. Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi imparts training in Indian Classical Music and Dance upto Post Graduate level. Today, the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya has around 1100 students on its rolls. Besides the administrative staff the Vidyalaya has more than 25 fully trained and dedicated teachers, with Padmashree Madhup Mudgal, himself a vocalist of international repute, as its present Principal. Regular instruction is provided in Hindustani classical vocal and Instrumental music including Sitar, Violin, Flute, Harmonium and Tabla and classical dance i.e. Kathak, Bharatnatyam and Odissi. In addition to this, a regular Choir, widely known as Gandharva Choir, is ever on the move. It is directed by the Shri Madhup Mudgal who takes due care to get it enriched and improved from time to time. One of the largest examination centres of India, the Vidyalaya is affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai. The fee structure of the institute is moderate, keeping in mind that people from all walks of life are able to learn. Around 100 students are on half fees or totally exempt. Needy and meritorious students are also provided financial relief by way of scholarships, if and when the need arises. The Vidyalaya has been organizing Pt. Vishnu Digambar Jayanti Sangeet Samaroh for more than last 65 years. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious music festivals of India in which all the top musicians across the country have performed. Many established senior artists have had their maiden performances in Delhi on this platform. Young and upcoming artists are featured regularly at the festival which also features a Carnatic musician every year. Besides Vishnu Digambar Jayanti Sangeet Samaroha there are regular music Seminars, Workshops and monthly students meets for the development of the teachers and students. A Library containing some special books, periodicals and journals is also there for those who seek to improve their general understanding of music.It also maintains archives and photo gallery, a vast collection of photographs of musicians who have given recitals at its numerous functions, as well as of old masters.
