Major Activities/Achievements : Digital Empowerment Foundation, a New Delhi (India) based not-for-profit organization was registered on December 2002, under the “Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860” to work towards finding Information Communication Technology enabled solutions to bridge the digital divide in India. Major activities:- 1. ‘gyanpedia.in’:- A web based content learning and exchange programme (www.gyanpedia.in) 2. Community Information Resource Centre :- ICT enabled Community telecentres running in 3 locations 3. ‘Tribal Women as Change Agents’:- pilot completed involving 100 women 4. iREP:- Implemented ‘ ICT based entrepreneurship program’ for rural youths with entrepreneurial capacities 5. The Manthan Award: – The 2009 edition of the Manthan Award for South Asia’s best e-Content for Development will be the sixth year of this ICT event. (www.manthanaward.org) 6. ERP: – Implementing the English Relay Programme; India’s first of its kind program of English language for rural children. 7. Local Area Portal (Digital Panchayat):- Two pilots running in 200 panchayats (panchayats are lowest level of people’s representation in India) 8. Common Service Centres: – Associated with the National Common Service Centre programme as the content partner. 9. DEF has undertaken research, documentation activities including evaluation and assessment studies for public-private projects in India including Aarohi, Hyderabad First. 10. DEF is implementing the national eNGO programme. This programme is about ICT capacity building of NGOs and development organisations. It is being implemented with support from NIXI and Intel India. 11. DEF is running the national Digital Panchayat programme in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. 12. DEF runs a B2B platform of content and service providers http://www.contentxchange.in/
