Major Activities/Achievements : BHARAT VIKAS YATRA 1. TITLE OF THE PROJECT: Bharat Vikas Yatra organized by Confederation of NGOs of Rural India, CNRI throughout the country during Nov. 14 – Dec. 31, 2007. 2. Summary abstract of the proposed project (in 200 words or less). A note annexed. 3. Objectives of the Project, state briefly and clearly and specifically itemized • To deepen, strengthen and intensify the benefits of Science and Technology in the era of knowledge economy amongst different sections of the society, particularly, those in the rural areas, having limited opportunities to enable them to take advantage of the far reaching developments taking place at the national and global level. • To bring home to the rural people the benefits and advantages that are there in terms of a variety of schemes and projects in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry, bio-technology, food processing, fisheries, and so on. • To bring to their knowledge and understanding of the range of non-farm sector activities which could provide skill upgradation and market opportunities at the local, national and international levels. • To spread computer literacy amongst the deprived sections of the society for ICT-enabled development through village knowledge centres. 1 • To Interact with NABARD and other commercial banks in rural areas with the objective of achieving inclusive financial services for the benefit of poor people. • To educate and get the people be in continual readiness to face all kinds of natural calamities and man-made disasters and workout arrangements for their long-term survival and livelihood opportunities in the post-disaster situation with the help of NDMA, Govt. of India and the network of NGOs. • To inculcate the values of education, preventive and curative health, avoidance of tobacco and other harmful drugs and need for use of safe drinking water, importance of hygiene and sanitation and value of protecting environment and enriching the same through a number of simple but beneficial initiatives. • Spread the message of human rights which are very important from the point of the deprived sections of the society and how they could take advantage of the operational machinery at the national and State level established by the Govt. • Dissemination of information pertaining to the laws, rules and regulations in force for safeguarding the interests of women, children and other weaker sections of society under the aegis of NALSA (National Legal Services Authority) and working out arrangements for the establishment of a strong body of Community Advocates in rural areas. • To educate the masses and gross-root level institutions regarding the tenets of RTI Act and how the stakeholders can take proper advantage of the same. • To educate, motivate, energise and revitalize the social workers at the gross root levels, such as, NGOs, SHGs and other important organs of the civil society regarding multi-dimensional aspects of development and the positive role they have to play for the emergence of an inclusive society.
