Details of Achievements :

Centre for Media Studies (CMS) is an independent, not-for-profit multi-disciplinary organization. CMS is dedicated to path breaking Research, Advocacy and Capacity building, to work towards a vision of Equitable Development & Responsive Governance. Established in 1991, CMS has carved out a niche for itself a research based think tank committed to rigorous and objective analysis to support improved policymaking. Through its policy research CMS has been contributing to the social and development discourse in the country for improving the lives of the people, particularly marginalized and vulnerable sections of the society in India. To address domain-specific issues, specialized CMS teams include CMS Social, CMS Environment, CMS Communication, CMS Media Lab, CMS Transparency, CMS Advocacy and CMS Surveys. Priority Areas As a professional body, CMS has a wide range of concerns and capabilities to provide research support in social sector which include core development issues such as poverty, livelihoods, food and nutrition security, education, health, environment, climate change, biodiversity, natural resource management, communication and governance. CMS has undertaken large-scale national studies that cut across cultural and physical boundaries on Social Development, Environment, Communication and Governance issues at local and national policy levels. CMS takes pride for the rigour of its study methodologies, the innovative approaches that it brings to research initiatives and for credibility of its findings. Going beyond Research CMS firmly believes that ‘research not an end in itself but a means’, and therefore it is important to utilize the knowledge gained through research and evaluation studies. CMS has advocated on critical themes like gender equality, social equity, girl child education, female foeticide, education reforms, media regulation issues, environment conservation, disability, Right to Information, Social Audit, Entertainment Education, Governance, Transparency and Accountability to promote equity and effective governance in the country. Apart from regular workshops, seminars, roundtables, symposia across the country, CMS has reliable outreach arrangements for programmes at grassroots to keep up the momentum of implementation and sustain involvement of people.
