Major Activities/Achievements : Going to School began its journey in 2003 with Going to School in India, a book for children that celebrates what school can be from going to school in a tent in the middle of a mud desert to going to school in the dark, 25 such stories about children going to school in India. 10 Going to School in India mini books were translated in regional languages and 500,000 sets were distributed to Government schools free of cost reaching an estimated 5 million children across India. 9 Going to school in India movies were seen by over 65 million children on POGO and National Geographic. Girl Stars are extraordinary tales of women and girls who have changed their lives by going to school. From Anita the Beekeeper to Kiran the Junkyard Dealer, Girl Stars is a series of 15 movies, 15 books and 15 Radio episodes that creates icons out of everyday women and girls. Supported by UNICEF, it is estimated that over 700 million people have seen Girl Stars on national and regional TV channels in 8 languages. Girl Stars storybooks have been printed by UNICEF and will be distributed to Government Schools reaching over 25 million girls. Girl Stars stories have also been included in Government of India NCERT textbooks reaching at least 10 million children. Currently GTS is working on Be! an Entrepreneur. Be! is a multimedia project (13 films, 50 books & a radio series) to inspire millions of young people from low-income groups to choose to become entrepreneurs and create businesses that solve the social, economic and environmental problems they face in their lives. From water to waste management, renewable energy to healthcare, Be! believes young people have solutions to the problems that face us all. Each Be! story asks young people to submit their business plan to the Be! Fund, a hybrid-investment fund that will make micro-equity investments in first-time entrepreneurs.
