Details of Achievements :

Deshkal Society has been engaged primary in the areas of education, livelihoods, culture and land rights at national , grassroots, and international level with civil society organizations , government and international agencies, UN agencies, research institutions and universities for realizing the vision of socio-economically inclusive and ecologically safe habitats with dignity, equity, justice and freedom for all. Achievements in the field of education include network building on Classroom Curriculum and Social Inclusion in the seven states of India, production of an action research based report on ‘ Notion of Educability of Children from Marginalised Communities’, provision of functional Literacy to 863 Musahar Women through SHGs in 52 villages of Gaya district, creation of learning material for Dalit Children through Reconstructing contents and methods of teaching for Dalit children, inclusion of Dalit Studies in Higher Education though workshop on Social Inclusion in the curricula of Higher Studies in 4 universities of Bihar and creation of online discussion forum for discussing the issues of marginality and diversity for making classrooms inclusive. In the field of livelihood promotion, Deshkal Society has promoted Promoting Entrepreneurship through Pig rearing among 300 Musahar women in 4 village of Gaya, conducted a research on the culture of rice and empowerment of women and created a robust civil society engagement with NREGS through conducting a workshop in Gaya district. In the field of culture, Deshkal produced a 30 minute documentary film, audio cassettes of 200 hours, 3000 digital and 800 non-digital photographs on culture of Musahar community. Recognizing right to homestead land and housing , the organization facilitated 1586 women and men of Musahar community in receiving parcha/ parwana for homestead land, produced a Training module titled ‘ Bhumiheenon avam Begharon Ke Haq Ke Kanuni Mudde, strengthened 30 CBOs and formed 50 CBOs for realizing the right to homestead land and housing sustainably. Publication of books and booklets has been an essential tool for knowledge based activism of Deshkal Society for generation of analytical and advisory output towards policy building. Its publications include 6 books and 4 booklets. Published books include Asserting Voices: Changing culture, Identity and Livelihood of the Musahars in the Gangetic Plains, Edited by Hemant Joshi and Sanjay Kumar; Dalit Studies in Higher Education: Vision and Challenges Edited by Arun Kumar and Sanjay Kumar; Dalit Assertion in Society, Literature and History Edited by Imtiaz Ahmad and Shashi Bhushan Upadhyay and Bharat Mei Bal Mazdoor: Nazook Bachpan Muskil Jimedari by Lakshmidhar Mishra. Booklets include Marginalisation of Dalit Muslims in Indian Democracy (Edited by Safdar Imam Quadri & Sanjay Kumar) ,Working Conditions of Female Domestic Workers in Delhi (Edited by Niti Kumar),Paryavaran Aur Sanskriti (Written by Anil Agrawal) and Bhartiya Sanskriti Mein Rajya Aur Bazaar (Written by Balmiki Prasad Singh) .
