Details of Achievements :
Core Cancer foundation was established in 2000 as a non- formal organisation for dissemination of information about various types of Cancer and their management. It is a known fact that a lot of cancers are caused by preventable causes, primary amongst them being tobacco. The foundation consisted of people from all walks of life who were interested in improving the well being of cancer patients. Core Cancer Foundation is Conducting Anti tobacco workshops in schools, Creating Awareness amongst general public and children regarding the ill effects of tobacco, publishing articles in papers and other forums regarding cancer and its causes, conducting all delhi & NCR region anti tobacco Quiz for school going children , Reaching out to the industry for making them aware about the ill effects of tobacco and cancer awareness programmes
The foundation adopted various means to carry out their mission.
1. Leaflets were printed on various cancers like Breast, colon, stomach; head and neck at monthly intervals which were distributed free of cost in various hospitals and chemist shops.
2. Similar articles were published in news paper, specifically in Hindi, considering the fact that people with limited means would be unable to read English.
3. Various programmes were held in schools where they were given a talk on effects of tobacco, quiz on tobacco was conducted to increase awareness about ill effects of tobacco and children were encouraged to participate in various events like slogans, posters,limericks on the same.
4. A website www.corecancerfoundation.org was established to disseminate information about cancer. It is now being made interactive so that queries of various patients can be answered. Information about activities of the foundation is listed.
5. The foundation interacts with other similar organisations and W.H.O to hold interactive sessions and give inputs in formulating policies to control tobacco spread and awareness about its harmful effects.
6. Similar programmes regarding awareness about harmful effects of tobacco are held in college and industrial organisation.
7. School and college goers were encouraged in formation of ATAP clubs where children are encouraged to participate in activities related to anti tobacco, teenagers from college are encouraged to become volunteers in spreading the message.
The N.G.O. was finally registered in 2006 to be able to spread the message in various other cities as well. It is an 80(G) tax exemption holder to encourage donation from philanthropists. Last year saw the initiation of Jagriti, inter school Quiz involving 40 schools of NCR region as well as participation in the Delhi Marathon for increasing visibility of anti tobacco campaign. This year saw initiation of nukkad natak presentations involving various delhi school children, and a signature campaign to declare Delhi a smoke free city as well as holding Jagriti on a much bigger scale.The finals are being held on 13th Dec at Lok Kala manch Auditorium 9:30 AM
