Centre for Fly Ash Research and Management “C-FARM” is a section 25 company incorporated under Indian Company’s Act 1956 for undertaking and facilitating R&D, scale up and application of fly ash technologies in the field towards large scale adoption and utilization of fly ashes, inter-alia, dissemination of information/know-how, providing training and capacity building. The main activities of the Centre for Fly Ash Research and Management C-FARM are as under: •To undertake, promote and facilitate research and development in the area of fly ash. •To provide technical support and facilitation for large scale utilization and management of fly ash. •To undertake and facilitate dissemination of information and awareness creation. •To undertake and conduct short term courses, technical forums, trainings, technical seminars and conferences, inter-alia, capacity building. •To collaborate and facilitate scale-up and large scale adaptation of fly ash technologies. •To provide scientific and technical guidance as well as support for: ofly ash management & 100 percent utilization plans for thermal power plants oEcological solutions for management of fly ash with conservation of water, power and land oFly ash processing and value addition oDurable and economical construction through fly ash oHigher agriculture yield and reclamation of wastelands oManufacture of fly ash based products and use of fly ash for various applications A few examples of field projects completed: •Design and implementation of plan and strategy for 100 percent utilization of fly ash for a thermal power station. •Classification and beneficiation of fly ash. •Feasibility study for conveying fly ashes with HCSD system with indigenous pumping system. •Optimization of CLC block technology with fly ash. •Use of fly ash and its products in real estate projects, specially use of fly ash n concrete with PPC. •Capacity building and short term courses for thermal power station engineers for development and promotion of fly ash utilization. •Technical training and demonstration for utilization of fly ash in agriculture, forestry and wasteland reclamation in the vicinity of a thermal power station in Orissa. A few examples for field projects under execution Development and utilization of fly ash based concretes for critical structures and foundations in Thermal Power Station and Steel Plant. Implementation of technological solutions to conserve water, power and maintenance cost for fly ash management at a captive Thermal Power Station. To increase use of fly ash and optimization of quality of RMC at a TPP. To increase percentage use of fly ash and optimize quality of fly ash bricks and blocks at a UMPP. Use of fly ash in agriculture: a policy document. To develop a method and protocol to determine fly ash content in PPC. Fly ash management and institutional arrangements in other countries : Lessons for India. Psychology and human behaviour for acceptance of fly ash and its products for large scale utilization. Optimization and transfer of technology for manufacture of fly ash bricks with more than 80 percent ash content.
